Curcuma Alba
The Curcuma Alba is a gorgeous variety that almost glows once the white flower bulbs bloom and outstretch. These short, rounded white bracts have green tips that fade to pink with a narrow green foliage. Small lilac day flowers appear at times from the bracts base like little treasures adorning this perennial furthermore. Native from the open woodlands of Northern Thailand there is no doubt that, with ample water and fertiliser during summer, this Curcuma will add tropical magic to your space.

PLANT ME
In a pot or in the ground. In a rich, well draining soil.
KEEP ME IN
Somewhere with a good amount of natural light.
PUT ME OUT
In a warm, sheltered spot.
WATER ME
Daily during warm months when I have leaves and flowers. Not at all when I’m dormant and have lost my leaves. (Natural winter rainfall is fine).
FEED ME
A good, balanced slow release or organic fertiliser.
I LIKE
To be left to shed my leaves at the end of the season. Please don’t pull them off as you may damage my rhizome (root / bulb). Some mulch to help me regulate my temperature and water.
MY FLOWERS
Appear from December to May and make great cut flowers.
NOTES
My rhizome can be harvested and stored somewhere warm, dark and dry for future propagation. I’m part of the Ginger family – similar to the type we eat and have a rhizome that looks and smells similar.
