May 2012

Happy May 2012 to all our customers!
Can you believe it’s May already? As a world-wide day of celebration, the first of May probably ranks second only to New Year's day. Whereas everyone celebrates the New Year, albeit in different ways, May Day has many different customs depending on where in the world you live:

May Day - The first day of summer in Europe
Beltane - Cross quarter day. Half way between the Vernal Equinox and Mid-Summer solstice
Maypole dances in England
Walpurgis Night (Germany and Scandinavia). - Bonfires and devil worship
Labor Day - China and Russia hold formal parades

Here in Australia Labour Day is being celebrated by not doing any labour :) That’s what we love about this country – it’s all about having a good time!

13th May 2012 will be Mother’s Day again and many of our customers have received some very beautiful Anthuriums during the last weeks. If you still need to get stock for this special day get in quick – there are only very limited numbers left.
We truly are so lucky with our location – the Sunshine Coast and its Hinterland are magical spots and even during winter we are blessed with nice weather and sunshine. Gardening is fun all year around and as winter comes we will be having our stunning Euphorbias “Poinsettia” again. Available throughout winter will also be: Vireyas, Cordylines, Anthuriums and many more. Ask our office for this week’s availability list.
The Vireyas (Tropical Rhododendrons) are also coming into their prime and are covered in buds – every week more flowers coming up. Please contact Kerry and Franzi in the office to get your delivery of nice plants in flower!
We wish all our customers a very happy May and look forward to talking to you on the phone! Enjoy!

Euphorbia Poinsettia 200mm

As the days shorten the Euphorbia Poinsettias are being triggered to flower and they already colour up now! They will be available throughout all May and even into June (while stocks last). Check with our office for availability of colours – we have reds, pinks, white/citric/apricot and some mixed colours this year.
Our Poinsettias are dwarf varieties and grow to a maximum of 1 meter when planted out in the garden. Most people will keep their Poinsettias in pots though – they will thrive in a bright, sunny indoor position while direct afternoon-sun should be avoided.
Fertilise your Poinsettia every 2 to 3 weeks during its growing season and prune after flowering to encourage bushy growth.

Vireya Tropical Rhododendron 200mm and 140mm

Finally they are back – Vireyas are without a doubt the “Autumn- and Spring-stars” in our nursery. We offer a wide range of different coloured varieties. The selection of colours includes amongst others pale creams, whites, yellows, brilliant oranges, pinks and reds.
The flowers are produced in clusters of trumpet-shaped blooms, and are produced throughout the year mainly in Autumn and Spring. Some varieties are highly fragrant, while others are not. For more information please refer to the Vireya section on this website or call Kerry and Franzi in the office: 07 5446 9144.
